Technical diving is a growing market and the demand for qualified PADI TecRec Instructors continues to increase. If you’re a PADI Professional who is into tec diving and want to join the tec pro ranks, earning a Tec 40 Instructor rating is the first step.

Taking the leap to teach Tec; after experience as a Tec Diver is an extraordinary step in your instructing career.  Come learn with experienced Tec Instructors & TEC50 Instructor Trainer to help you learn all the ins and outs of teaching PADI Technical Diver courses.   

To enroll in a PADI Tec Instructor course, you must:

General prerequisites

• PADI Instructor rating: You must hold a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor certification or a higher rating.
• Specialty Instructor certifications: You need to be a certified PADI Enriched Air Diver Specialty Instructor and a PADI Deep Diver Specialty Instructor.
• Technical diving certification: You must be a certified PADI Tec 40, Tec 45, or Tec 50 diver, depending on the specific instructor course.
• Dive log: A minimum of 100-270 logged dives is required, with a specific number of technical or decompression dives, such as 25 staged decompression dives for the Tec Deep Instructor course. 

INSTRUCTOR COURSE

Tec 40 Instructors introduce divers to tec diving and open up the world of tec exploration to the next generation. Ask your PADI Tec 50 Instructor Trainer how you can get started.

Diving beyond recreational depths with open-circuit technical gear has allowed tec divers to discover amazing underwater wrecks and photograph never-before-seen marine organisms. Tec 40 Instructors introduce divers to tec diving and open up the world of tec exploration to the next generation. When you earn this dive instructor rating, you can conduct PADI Discover Tec programs and teach the PADI Tec Basics and Tec 40 Diver courses. There is also an option to become a PADI Tec 40 Trimix Instructor.

To enroll in the Tec 40 Instructor course, you must meet these qualifications:

• PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (or higher rating)
• PADI Enriched Air Diver Specialty Instructor
• PADI Deep Diver Specialty Instructor
• Tec 45 Diver certification
• 25 EANx dives deeper than 30 metres/100 feet
• 10 decompression dives wearing full technical equipment

Prior to sending in your Tec 40 Instructor application, you must have:

• Certified 25 divers: no more than five certified divers from courses without dives, no more than five certified divers from PADI Seal Team or Master Seal Team registrations
• Minimum of 20 decompression dives

One of the following:

1. Completed a PADI Tec 40 Instructor course
2. Qualifying tec instructor rating with another organization and:

• have assisted with one Tec 40 Diver course or taught two qualifying courses
• successfully complete the Tec 40 Instructor Exam within 12 months of application

And,

• Successfully complete the Tec 40 Instructor Exam within 12 months of application

INSTRUCTOR COURSE

When you earn this rating, you can conduct Discover Tec programs and teach the PADI Tec Basics, PADI Tec 40, and Tec 45 Diver courses. There is also an option to become a PADI Tec 45 Trimix Instructor.

To enroll in the PADI Tec 45 Instructor course, you must meet these qualifications:

1. PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (or higher rating)
2. PADI Enriched Air Diver Specialty Instructor
3. PADI Deep Diver Specialty Instructor
4. 25 EANx dives deeper than 30 metres/100 feet
5. Tec 45 Diver
6. 10 decompression dives wearing full technical equipment
   
   

Prior to sending in your Tec 45 Instructor application, you must have:

• Certified 25 divers: no more than five from courses without dives, no more than five from PADI Seal Team or Master Seal Team registrations
• 150 logged dives with 20 decompression dives deeper than 30 metres/100 feet
  
  

One of the following:

1. Completed a PADI Tec 45 Instructor course
2. Have a qualifying tec instructor rating with another organization and

• Be a PADI Tec 40 Instructor rating OR have assisted with one Tec 40 Diver course OR taught two qualifying courses
• Assisted with one Tec 45 Diver course or taught two qualifying courses
• Successfully complete the Tec 40 Instructor Exam within 12 months of application.

4. 25 EANx dives deeper than 30 metres/100 feet
5. Tec 50 Diver
6. 10 decompression dives wearing full technical equipment

Prior to sending in your Tec 50 Instructor application, you must have:

• Certified 25 divers: no more than five from courses without dives, no more than five from PADI Seal Team or Master Seal Team registrations
• 250 logged dives with 25 decompression dives deeper than 40 metres/130 feet

Meet one of the following:

1. Completed a PADI Tec 50 Instructor course and have assisted with two PADI Tec 50 Diver courses, or one Tec 45 Diver and one Tec 50 Diver course.
2. Have a qualifying tec instructor rating with another organization and:

• Be a PADI Tec 40 Instructor or have assisted with one Tec 40 Diver course or taught two qualifying courses
• Be a PADI Tec 45 Instructor or have assisted with one Tec 45 Diver course or taught two qualifying courses
• Have assisted with one Tec 50 Diver course or taught two qualifying courses
• Successfully completed the Tec 50 Instructor Exam within 12 months of application
